Explore Golden & Area
Things to do in Golden
Things may have changed in these unusual times but you can still get out to enjoy and explore the surrounding area. Our Golden BC Bed and Breakfast is conveniently located to access many of the local activities.
Not only is Golden a place of spectacular scenery but it is an authentic mountain town offering a rich history and plenty of cultural experiences. Your activities can be as strenuous or relaxing as you wish.
For the most comprehensive list of all there is to do and any Town events happening we suggest you check here with Tourism Golden.
Kicking Horse Mountain
In summer one of our favourite things to do in Golden is to visit Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. It’s a beautiful drive to the Resort up a road where bears are frequently spotted with cubs in Spring and Fall eating fresh grass on the verges. You can take the gondola up to the high alpine for hiking with 360 views, visit the Grizzly Bear Refuge or enjoy the thrills of downhill mountain biking. One of our favourite quick hikes for spectacular views is called T2 and you can read about it in a recent Blog post.
In winter the downhill skiing is out of this world and the Nordic Cross Country ski trails are close by. You can rent skis or snow-shoes at the Nordic Daylodge.
Enjoy dining with a view at the Eagle’s Eye restaurant or enjoy a casual stop at Double Black Cafe (a favourite spot)
Hiking and Biking
Golden genuinely is a great destination for hiking and biking. Situated at the heart of Yoho, Banff, Glacier and Kootenay National Parks many well known hikes are easily accessed each day. We are surrounded by local hikes of all levels. Leave our Golden lodge each morning and north, south, east or west you will find hikes to glaciers, waterfalls, wildflower meadows, old growth cedar forests, rivers and hoodoos. Goldenhikes is a great local website to access information on all these hikes. One of our Blog posts, Hiking around Golden, features a favourite Fall hike where you can see larch in abundance without the crowds of the National Parks.
Golden is an increasingly popular mountain biking destination. Multiple options exist for cross country or downhill biking for all levels. The trails in Mountain Shadows, Mount 7 or the Moonrakers are popular and many are accessible from town with no vehicle required. All routes are available on the Trail Forks pages.
Rivers
Golden sits at the confluence of the Kicking Horse River, a Canadian heritage river famous for whitewater rafting, and the Columbia River, a BC heritage river which meanders through the longest protected wetlands in North America.
You can book a whitewater rafting trip, rent a canoe or stand-up paddle board or walk downtown along the rotary Trails to where the 2 great rivers meet and enjoy a picnic.
